British safety heritage, German engineering
Britax began in Britain in 1938 — its name a contraction of “British Accessories” — and moved early into car safety, launching its first child car seat in 1966. In 1978 it joined with the German car-seat specialist Römer to create Britax Römer, pairing British safety heritage with German engineering.
Today the majority of Britax Römer car seats are made in Leipheim, Germany. The brand helped pioneer the ISOFIX click-in anchorage system and develops its own safety technologies — SICT, the XP-Pad and SecureGuard — earning a strong reputation in independent European safety tests. SICT stands for Side Impact Cushion Technology — a Britax-developed cushion that absorbs and diverts side-impact energy away from your child. Many Britax seats also add the XP-Pad (which reduces abrupt forward head movement) and SecureGuard (which keeps the lap belt low to stop submarining).
Which Britax car seat suits my child's age?
For newborns to ~7 years, the 360° Swivel-Grow Max Air converts from harness to booster. From 15 months to 12 years, the Advansafix Pro grows from a 5-point harness to a highback booster. For 100–150 cm (about 3.5–12 years), the KidFix Pro highback booster uses the vehicle belt with SICT protection.
