Fred's Swim Academy SWIMTRAINER · Since 1986

Learn to swim, the right way

The SWIMTRAINER "Classic" is the German learn-to-swim ring that grows with your child — red, then orange, then yellow — holding little ones in a natural swimming position so they build real water confidence, safely, from as early as 3 months.

3-stage learn-to-swim system Natural swimming position TÜV & GS tested

Made by a swim teacher

The SWIMTRAINER was invented in Germany by swim teacher Fred Warmuth, who wanted a float that actually teaches correct technique — not just keeps a child afloat.

Grows with your child

Three colour stages — red, then orange, then yellow — each matched to an age and skill level, so the aid is withdrawn step by step until your child swims unaided.

Correct swimming position

Unlike an upright swim ring, the SWIMTRAINER holds your child in a natural, near-horizontal position with room to move — so good habits are learned from the very first splash.

Built for safety

Multiple air chambers, phthalate-free PVC, a return-flap valve, an adjustable safety belt and inflatable shoulder straps — and TÜV/GS and ASTM-tested.

One ring, three stages

The SWIMTRAINER grows with your child — from first splashes to swimming solo.

Child in the Red SWIMTRAINER stage
Red stage Approx. 3 months – 4 years

The first stage: getting comfortable in the water and learning correct leg movements, safely held in position.

Child in the Orange SWIMTRAINER stage
Orange stage Approx. 2 – 6 years

More freedom to practise correct arm and leg movements together, building real swimming coordination.

Child in the Yellow SWIMTRAINER stage
Yellow stage Approx. 4 – 8 years

The final stage: the smallest support, helping your child make the leap to swimming with no float at all.

The Fred's story

A swim teacher's idea, since 1986

Fred's Swim Academy grew from a simple frustration: German swim teacher Fred Warmuth wasn't convinced by the armbands and rings of the day — none taught children to swim properly. So he built his own. The result was the SWIMTRAINER "Classic", in three colour stages matched to a child's age and progress.

Today the Augsburg-based family business is run by Fred's daughter Michaela, and the SWIMTRAINER is trusted by families around the world. Its guiding idea has never changed: have fun safely.

The SWIMTRAINER is a swim-training aid, not a life jacket or safety device — always keep an adult within arm's reach of children in or near water.

SWIMTRAINER questions, answered

What is the SWIMTRAINER?

The SWIMTRAINER "Classic" by Fred's Swim Academy is a learn-to-swim ring for babies and young children. Rather than keeping a child upright like an ordinary swim ring, it holds them in a natural swimming position and is designed to teach correct technique in three progressive stages.

What do the red, orange and yellow colours mean?

The colours are learning stages that grow with your child: RED for roughly 3 months–4 years (first water confidence and leg movements), ORANGE for about 2–6 years (arm and leg coordination), and YELLOW for about 4–8 years (the smallest support, transitioning to swimming unaided).

What age and weight is it for?

The range covers roughly 3 months to 8 years across the three stages. Weight guidance is approximate — the red stage suits about 6–18 kg — so always check the sizing for your child's stage.

Is the SWIMTRAINER a life jacket or drowning-prevention device?

No. The SWIMTRAINER is a swim-training and water-familiarisation aid, not a life jacket or a safety-from-drowning device. It does not replace supervision — an adult should always be within arm's reach of a child in or near water.

Which colour should we start with?

Start with the stage that matches your child's age and weight — for most babies that's the red SWIMTRAINER — then move up to orange and yellow as their confidence and skills grow.
