The chair that grows with your child
Peter Opsvik designed the Tripp Trapp in 1972, after his son outgrew his high chair. The idea is simple. The seat and footplate move up and down the frame, so the same chair fits a six-month-old, a schoolchild and an adult. It pulls right up to the dining table, so your baby eats with the family, not beside it. More than 50 years on, it is still the chair we recommend first.

From the first feed to the family dinner
Add the Newborn Set or the Baby Set for the early years. Both are sold separately in the Complete your set panel above, so you only buy the stage you need now. Each one clicks on without tools.

Your child eats at your height and sees what everyone is doing
Both the seat and the footplate adjust for height and depth. The footplate works like a floor, so your child can plant their feet and sit steady. The curved backrest supports the spine without forcing a stiff pose. Three things to set, in this order.

Seat heightMatch the table. Elbows should sit at table height, about 72 to 76 cm on a normal dining table.

Seat depthTwo or three fingers should fit between the back of the knee and the front of the seat.

FootplateSet it so the knees bend at 90 degrees with feet flat on the plate.
European beech, a safe finish and a 7-year warranty
The frame is European beech from FSC certified forests and other controlled sources. The paint is water-based, with no bisphenol or phthalates. Wipe spills away with a damp cloth. The chair is tested to the European chair and high chair standards and carries the Intertek GS safety mark. The standard numbers are in the specifications below. Register your chair at stokkewarranty.com and Stokke extends the warranty on the wooden parts to 7 years. Keep your receipt, and use the chair indoors.
Choose your colour
Pick a wood tone if you want the chair to blend into the dining room. Pick a colour if you want it to stand out. Tap a chair to select it. Screens show colours a little differently, and sunlight slowly changes the wood tone over the years.

Before you buy
From what age can my baby use the Tripp Trapp? +
From birth with the Newborn Set. From about six months, once your baby sits up unaided, with the Baby Set. The Baby Set is approved to 3 years or 15 kg. From about three years the chair works on its own, right through to adulthood.
Can I use it without the Baby Set? +
Yes, once your child is past the Baby Set stage, from about three years. Under that age, use the Baby Set, with the Stokke Harness if you want a five-point strap. Fit the extended gliders whenever either set is on the chair.
How do I clean it? +
Wipe spills with a damp cloth. The paint is water-based, with no bisphenol or phthalates. Keep the chair indoors, as the wood warranty covers indoor use only.
What is the weight limit? +
The chair itself holds up to 136 kg, so adults can sit on it. With the Baby Set fitted, the limit is 15 kg or 3 years of age, whichever comes first.
Does it arrive assembled? +
No. It comes flat-packed in a box 80 x 51 x 9 cm. You put it together with the printed guide, which you can also download below. Read the guide first. It shows the right seat and footplate positions for each age.
Which accessories fit? +
Only Stokke accessories. The Newborn Set, Baby Set 2, Stokke Harness, Stokke Tray and Tripp Trapp Cushion all click on without tools. Other brands have not been tested on this chair and can affect its stability. Please avoid them.
Does it fit at the dining table? +
Yes. It is made to pull right up to a normal dining table, about 72 to 76 cm high. Your child eats at the table instead of from a tray. Stand it on a hard, level floor. If your child pushes against the table, the chair needs to slide back a little. On a carpet or rug it cannot, and it may tip. Keep it off rugs.
